Allstate Insurance Company is ranked No. 8 on this year’s InformationWeek Elite 100 - a list of the top business technology innovators in the U.S. Allstate’s recognition is based on a variety of factors that include the introduction of IT-based products and services and use of data analytics to connect with customers. This makes it easy for customers to do business with Allstate anywhere, anytime and any way they choose.

The company’s innovative use of technology is reflected in the Drivewise®Mobile application, which allows customers to monitor their own driving behavior when and where they desire through their smartphone. The smartphone collects data from a range of sensors to detect driving motion and GPS information. Then, on the analytics side, open source data technology enables the company to analyze information and process the data. Allstate is the only major U.S. insurer that offers a smartphone telematics solution.

“Consumers are connected in ways that create tremendous opportunity for innovation. Mobile apps, ubiquitous connectivity and the Internet of Things are changing the ways that Allstate serves and interacts with customers,” said Suren Gupta, executive vice president of Allstate Technology & Strategic Ventures. “We envision Drivewise as one element of a broader, strategic platform for delivering applications based on serving the connected consumer, and we are opening that platform and inviting app developers to build on it.”

Drivewise Mobile was launched in 2014 and uses telematics technology to encourage safer driving and reward customers with auto insurance savings. Initially introduced in 2010, the Drivewise telematics program is now in 47 states and the District of Columbia.

“The real-time feedback we can gain from our customers who use our Drivewise Mobile application helps open the door to more innovations,” said Ginger Purgatorio, vice president of Allstate’s Connected Car program. “Cars and digital technology are moving closer together, and incorporating telematics provides additional value and features not previously seen from an insurance provider.”
